Защо този урок?Purpose of this Lesson
In this session participants learn that behind the enormous variety of businesses in the world there are surprisingly few sets of business models. The primary goal is two-fold: first to understand how the world looks from an entrepreneur's perspective (video + discussion), and then to generate their own ideas through the Mash-Up method.

Методът Mash-UpThe Mash-Up Method
Mash-Up е сътруднически метод за генериране на идеи, в който участниците измислят иновативни концепции, като комбинират различни елементи. Mash-Up демонстрира как бързо и лесно може да се стигне до иновативни идеи.
Mash-Up is a collaborative idea generation method in which participants come up with innovative concepts by combining different elements together. Mash-ups demonstrate how fast and easy it can be to come up with innovative ideas.

Agent Context
Participants learn that despite the wide variety of businesses that exist today, there are surprisingly few business models behind them — more or less everything falls into the same patterns. The session is in two parts: (1) a short presentation and video about the state of the world from an entrepreneur's perspective, and (2) the Mash-Up activity — a collaborative, fast-paced idea generation method in which small teams rapidly combine elements from three wall-clustered brainstorm areas (Technologies, Human Needs, Business Models) to create and name new concepts in 12 minutes. The goal is to demonstrate how fast and easy it can be to generate innovative ideas, and to surface viable ideas that could be developed further during the year.
- Few business models, many businesses — the core insight: behind enormous variety are surprisingly few underlying model patterns (Subscription/SaaS, App Store, platform/marketplace like AirBnB, etc.)
- Mash-Up method — combine 2 or more elements from three brainstorm clusters (Technologies, Human Needs, Business Models) to create a new named concept on A4 paper in 12 minutes
- Three brainstorm areas — Technologies (e.g. telephone, 3D printing, GPS); Human Needs (e.g. love, transport, waking up); Business Models (e.g. Subscription/SaaS, App Store, AirBnB)
- Adaptable areas — can include Sources of Data (health records, subway timetables, census data) or Global Challenges (climate change, income inequality, obesity) for added dimension
- Speed as a feature — 12 minutes, upbeat music, mentor calls out remaining time; volume of ideas generated in short time is the lesson
- Optional develop step — 30 min deeper development of one chosen concept on flipchart paper
- Idea scouting — mentor watches for a viable idea that could become a real project for the year; mentor reports ideas to Ustvarjalnik/uSchool HQ
- Presentation — available in the mentor kit
- Projector and computer — for the video and presentation
- Coloured pens — for A4 concept sheets
- Post-it notes — for brainstorm (in abundance)
- A4 paper — one per Mash-Up concept (elements + name)
- Flipchart paper — optional, for develop step
- Step 1 — Show video (mentor kit); discuss entrepreneur's world view; bridge to Mash-Up
- Step 2 — Whole-group brainstorm: 3 min per area × 3 areas = 9 min total; one idea per post-it on wall
- Step 3 — Teams of 3–5; 12 min Mash-Up with music; as many concept A4s as possible
- Step 4 — Each team presents concepts; all A4s go on wall; mentor emphasises volume
- Step 5 (optional) — Teams choose favourite, develop for 30 min on flipchart, present back
- Step 5 / Debrief — Structured reflection questions (feeling, challenges, insights, application)
- How did it feel to work creatively in this way?
- What was easy about it? What was challenging?
- How did you feel? How did you behave, react, respond?
- What insights or learnings do you have about yourself?
- What insights or learnings do you have about idea development?
- How can you apply your learnings going forward?
- Prepare presentation (mentor kit) and test video before the lesson
- Ensure projector, computer, coloured pens, post-it notes and A4 paper are ready
- Show video; facilitate opening discussion
- Run 3-area brainstorm (3 min each); ensure wall has three large post-it clusters
- Divide into teams of 3–5; start 12-min Mash-Up with upbeat music; call out time every few minutes
- Have each team present their concepts; put all A4s on wall; highlight volume
- Debrief with structured reflection questions
- Include best ideas in post-class report to Ustvarjalnik/uSchool HQ
- [Optional] Develop best concept for 30 min on flipchart; present back
- Personal story — mentor should share business ideas they personally find fascinating to increase engagement
- Fast pace — upbeat music during 12-min Mash-Up; participants should be on their feet; call remaining time every few minutes
- Idea scouting — watch for a viable concept that can be developed into a real project for the year; only takes one good idea
- Reporting — include generated ideas in post-class report; Ustvarjalnik/uSchool HQ compiles a list across all clubs
- Area adaptation — can substitute or add: Sources of Data or Global Challenges as a third area for variety
